BATON ROUGE — A firefighter was sent to the hospital and crews rescued a dog during an early afternoon house fire on East Dr. in Baton Rouge Sunday.
Fire officials said they arrived on the scene just after noon and found “heavy fire” coming from a front room of the home.
While crews were looking for anyone inside the house, they found a dog and were able to safely get it out of the home. A firefighter was injured and transported to the hospital. Though officials did not release the type of injury, they said it was minor.
Two rooms of the home were “destroyed” and there was heavy smoke and water damage to the rest of the house, officials said. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the two displaced residents.
