This update brings a major overhaul to the onboarding process, providing clearer, more visually engaging explanations of critical features like firewall settings, password strength requirements, and two-factor authentication (2FA).
We’ve also simplified the process for setting up Solid Security on client websites, giving users more control over who can manage their site’s security.
Read on to discover all the exciting enhancements in this update!
Enhanced Onboarding Experience
In response to valuable feedback from our users, we’ve revamped the onboarding process for both Solid Security Free and Pro. The focus is on clarity and ease of use, ensuring that new users can quickly understand the key features that keep their websites secure.
Site Scan Integration
In the previous version, we introduced the Site Scan feature to the onboarding process, providing users with a snapshot of potential vulnerabilities on their sites. This gives users immediate insight into their website’s security status.
NEW! Firewall Features Explained
One of the highlights of this update is the addition of clear, visually engaging graphics that explain the firewall settings. The steps are laid out in a way that makes it easy for users to understand how the settings work and why they’re crucial for site security.
Brute Force
The first setting is Brute Force. You’ll see why it’s important and how it affects your site. We enable Local Brute Force by default. Toggle to enable Network Brute Force.
Password Strength Requirements
Users can enable settings that require strong passwords and refuse compromised ones. By default, these settings are applied to users with editor permissions or higher, with additional options available for customization.
You still have the power of user groups, however, this lets you configure these options a bit simpler during the onboarding flow.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
For those who want an extra layer of security, enabling two-factor authentication is now easier than ever. Toggle to Allow Two-Factor and the selected users will be prompted to configure a 2fa method the next time they log in.
Requiring Two-Factor for users is a Solid Security Pro feature. In Solid Security Free, you won’t have that option but it is noted that it’s a Pro-only feature.
Streamlined Security Setup
Managing Solid Security on client websites has never been more straightforward.
My Own Website vs. Client Website
Users are prompted to choose between “My Own Website” or “Client Website” during the setup process. Depending on the selection, the onboarding flow adjusts to cater to either personal site security or client site management.
Client-Specific Settings
If you’re managing a client website, you’ll be asked whether you’d like your clients to view and modify Solid Security settings. If you choose not to allow this, you’ll be prompted to select which users are clients so they can be grouped together.
You’ll also be asked which users will manage Solid Security on this site. By default, it includes the currently selected user, however, you can add additional users.
Global Settings and Features
This part of the onboarding process has not changed. You’ll see some of the features turned on during onboarding. Choose Complete Setup to end the onboarding process.
Conclusion
With Solid Security Free 9.3.6 and Pro 8.5.3, we’ve worked hard to enhance the user experience by improving the onboarding process and simplifying security setup. Whether you’re managing your own site or handling multiple client websites, this update provides the tools you need to keep everything secure and running smoothly.
We encourage you to explore the new features and let us know what you think! Stay tuned for more updates, as we continue to refine and expand Solid Security.
