BATON ROUGE — Many state government agencies, including the Office of Motor Vehicles can’t provide services for customers Thursday because of a statewide outage.
The outage, which was caused by a hardware failure Wednesday night affects all of the state’s executive branch except for elected officials or higher education officials, according to Jacques Berry a spokesperson for the state Division of Administration.
Berry said the outage affects the internet, email, and applications for those state agencies.
“We’re working to install new hardware we had on hand to reroute everything and get the systems back up,” Berry said. “We expect the agencies to be able to resume business later today.”
On its Facebook page Thursday morning, the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries advised people not to visit the headquarters for certain services until the network issue is resolved.
“The LDWF computer network is down, including email and telephone systems, the Facebook post said. “We apologize for the inconvenience. Our headquarters staff cannot answer phone calls or process boat registrations or licenses. The state Office of Technology Services is currently working on a resolution. Please wait to travel to LDWF headquarters for licensing and boat registration work until this problem is resolved.”
According to the OMV website, there is no estimated time that things will be restored.
The OMV will provide updates on its website and social media.
