PeachPie Reaches 1.0

The developers of PeachPie have released version 1.0 of the open source development platform that can be used to treat PHP as a native .NET language. Work on version 1 of PeachPie has concentrated on getting PHP projects running on .NET fluently.

PeachPie has a compiler, runtime, extension libraries, IDE support and MSBuild support. It is fully compatible with other .NET projects, fully managed, cross-platform, doesn’t need any native PHP, and takes advantage of the whole .NET platform.

The latest version provides support for PHP 7.4. PHP projects can be opened, built, debugged, and profiled in Visual Studio, and the new release shows off tThe latest WordPress version running on .NET, without any source files. This includes WordPress and the majority of plugins including Woocommerce and Elementor, and themes. C# support has also been improved as the new release emits and understands C#-8 like nullability context.

Other improvements to version one include the ability to compile and use selected composer packages as a class library by a C# project. The list includes Twig, PHPUnit, RandomLib, and dependencies of the Laravel framework. Code analysis at compilation has also been improved and the team says it provides detailed and useful diagnostics about the PHP code.

There’s an online version of the PeachPie compiler that you can try to see how to compile PHP code to C#, Visual Basic, or the .NET Intermediate language (IL).

The developers say that:

“with PeachPie the PHP code is receiving all the .NET stuff “for free” – neat diagnostic tools, debugging features, performance counters and monitoring, Just-in-Time compilation, Ahead-of-Time compilation, source-less distribution, GUI (Winforms, WPF, Xamarin Forms), MSBuild, packages from NuGet feeds, and more.”
